A camera without cloud recording, for more private family care
Knowing someone is okay does not have to mean keeping a video archive of their life. Velia analyses the scene on the Guardian phone and lets authorized family members check encrypted live video. This does not mean nothing leaves the device: local detection, transmission and storage are different things.
What to ask about a cloud camera
Camera architectures vary. Some analyse locally, others use servers, and some offer a choice of recording locations. Before comparing products, check which images are transmitted, who can access them, what is retained and for how long. A “no cloud” label alone cannot answer those questions.
Core detection stays on the phone
Velia’s pose estimation and core detection run on the Guardian Android. Velia does not store video recordings on its servers. The phone stays plugged in on a stable stand, facing an agreed zone. Light, obstructions and the camera’s field of view affect detection; one phone does not automatically cover the whole home.
Image-free alerts, temporary context on request
The normal notification contains no image. Possible fall detection can alert the family without opening live video. An authorized Viewer can request the temporary clip directly from the Guardian for up to 10 minutes after the alert. The clip is handled temporarily in memory (RAM). Velia does not write it to disk or store it as a cloud video recording. The request window does not specify an exact deletion time for every frame on both phones.
Encrypted remote video and optional images
Live video is transmitted end-to-end encrypted between the Guardian and authorized devices. Infrastructure connects the phones and delivers alerts: “without cloud recording” does not mean “without internet”. With consent, assisted setup and optional Second Look can process an ephemeral image for that request. A temporarily processed image is not a stored recording. Setup also offers a local alternative; Second Look adds context, not a diagnosis.
Free and Pro, without a video archive subscription
Essential alerts remain free forever. Free includes one Home, one Guardian and one active Viewer. Velia Pro extends access to multiple Viewers and up to four Guardians per Home, alongside the other features listed in the plan comparison. It is not a subscription to a recording archive. Service infrastructure still exists even when core analysis runs locally.
For families who want care without recording
You can reuse a compatible old phone in an indoor zone agreed with the person receiving care. Read the device requirements and the consent and privacy considerations. Consent and thoughtful placement matter as much as technology. Velia is complementary support: it does not detect every fall or replace human supervision or emergency services.
Questions about cameras without cloud recording
Does Velia store video recordings?
Velia does not store video recordings on its servers. The clip is handled temporarily in memory (RAM). Velia does not write it to disk or store it as a cloud video recording.
How does video reach my phone?
Live video travels end-to-end encrypted between authorized devices. Infrastructure helps connect them but cannot read the content of that encrypted stream.
Can any image leave the Guardian?
An authorized Viewer can request the temporary clip directly from the Guardian for up to 10 minutes after the alert. Alongside encrypted remote video, assisted setup and optional Second Look can process an ephemeral image with consent. That temporary processing is not a stored recording.
What happens without internet?
Core detection runs on the phone. Alerts and remote video need a connection to reach the family. Check the Guardian status after an interruption: recovery also depends on Android permissions and restrictions.
