Privacy by architecture, not promise.
By default, Velia sends alerts without images. Detection stays on the phone and live video is encrypted, never recorded. With explicit permission, one ephemeral image may create the initial map or add context to a critical alert; it is never stored.

Multimodal second look on critical events
With Pro and explicit permission, Second Look can send one ephemeral image to a cloud model for additional context on a critical alert. It is not a diagnosis or a guarantee that the situation is safe. The image is processed for that request and not retained.
The AI describes presence and routine; it never diagnoses. “Got up at 8:12” ✓ · “has an infection” ✗.

What works today — and what we’re still validating.
Implemented features are part of a broader validation effort on compatible phones. Device conditions and real homes vary; fall detection remains complementary support.
On-device monitoring
Analysis can continue overnight while the phone remains powered and able to see the zone. Low light, obstructions and device restrictions can limit detection.
Alerts that escalate
If nobody responds, Velia alerts again after 3 minutes and escalates at 8. The first response stops the chain.
Multi-camera live video
With Pro, family can open encrypted live video from up to four Guardians in one home.
Morning report
Pro summarizes the night in clear text and each family member's language, without opening video.
Several homes and relatives
Each Home keeps its own setup. Free includes one Home and one active Viewer; Pro allows multiple Viewers per Home.
Two-way audio
A large button lets family talk. When they watch or listen, the Guardian screen clearly shows it.
Recovery after a restart
A configured Guardian attempts to resume after a restart or app update. Camera permissions and Android restrictions still apply; check its status after an interruption.

How much does Velia cost?
Free includes one Home, one Guardian and one active Viewer, with essential alerts and the alert clip. Pro is US$9.99 per Home each month or US$59.99 a year, supports up to four Guardians and multiple Viewers, and adds live video, the morning report, audio and optional Second Look. Founding Homes receive 30% off the first year of Velia Pro only.
Which phone works as the camera?
Almost any Android from 2017 on: Android 8.0 or newer, 2 GB of RAM and any camera. The screen can be broken and the battery worn — the Guardian lives plugged in with the screen off. No SIM needed: just WiFi. The devices page has the exact requirements.
How much of the home does one phone cover?
One Guardian covers one room or area, and only what falls inside its camera's field of view. It cannot see through walls and does not protect the rest of the home, the garden or trips outside. Other areas need additional, carefully placed phones; Pro supports up to four per Home. Velia is complementary support, not whole-home coverage.
Is video stored anywhere?
No video recordings are stored on Velia’s servers. An authorized Viewer can request the temporary clip directly from the Guardian for up to 10 minutes after the alert. The clip is handled temporarily in memory (RAM). Velia does not write it to disk or store it as a cloud video recording.
Does it replace a panic button?

Detection can continue locally while the Guardian is running, powered and able to see the zone. Its battery may provide temporary power, but alerts and live video need internet to reach the family. Check the Guardian and network status after an interruption.
Does an iPhone work?
As the family's phone, yes: the app for watching and receiving alerts is on Android and iPhone. As the Guardian (the camera), Android only for now — which is precisely the phone that tends to sit in a drawer.
