Privacy Policy

Last updated: July 30, 2026

This document describes how Velia works today and will be updated as the service evolves. The Spanish and English versions are the reference versions.

Velia was designed to care without intruding. Privacy isn't a promise we make: it's how the product is built. This document explains what data exists, what never leaves the phone, and what we do with the little that travels.

01The principle: video is never stored

The analysis from the cameras (the Guardians) happens entirely inside the phone. No video frame is stored on our servers or in the cloud, and in normal operation no video ever leaves the phone.

When a family member asks to watch live, video and audio travel with end-to-end encryption (DTLS-SRTP) between the two phones — directly when the network allows it, or through a relay (TURN) that only sees encrypted packets it cannot read. In no case is it recorded.

02What does travel through the cloud

Only text passes through our servers: events (for example, “activity detected,” “possible fall”), signals to connect two phones, and status messages (heartbeats). Also care-related text: the first name of the person being cared for (if you set it), the push-notification identifiers of the family's phones, and — when the second look is enabled — the one-line description the AI generates about an event. Never stored images or audio.

In local mode (same WiFi network, “Velia at Home”) no account is created and the exchange stays inside your network. The key that links a home is transferred only in person, via a QR code; only its fingerprint (hash) is used to authorize access.

Access to our infrastructure is protected with app verification (App Check), and the credentials for the video relay (TURN) are ephemeral.

03The AI second look

On a critical event, and only if you enabled it, a single image may be analyzed by a model to confirm the event before alerting the family. That image is used in the moment and is not stored. It never happens in normal operation.

05Waitlist data (Founding Homes)

If you join the waitlist, we store your name and email, solely to contact you about the Founding Homes program. We do not sell it or use it for third-party advertising. You can request removal by writing to contact@velia.care.

06Providers

We use infrastructure services (for example, Google Firebase for text signaling and a TURN relay service for P2P video when a direct connection isn't possible). These providers process data on our behalf under their own terms; none receive stored video, because none exists.

07Cookies

This website uses no tracking cookies, no advertising, and no third-party analytics. There is no cookie banner because there is nothing to accept.

08Telemetry

Diagnostic telemetry (to know whether the app is working well) is optional and anonymous. You can turn it off.

The app also sends crash reports to standard diagnostic services so we can fix errors; they contain technical device data, never video or care content.

09Your rights and Europe

You can request access to, correction of, or deletion of your data by writing to contact@velia.care.

Velia is available in several European languages. Before offering the service in the European Union we will define the corresponding data residency and legal basis under the GDPR; until then, the service is offered for Latin America.

10Service operator

Velia is a product of Palau Technologies, the trade name of Pablo Molina, who acts as the operator of the service and the controller of the data described in this policy. Contact: contact@velia.care.

11Minors and changes

Velia is not directed to minors and does not knowingly collect data from them.

If we change this policy, we will update the date above and, if the change is material, notify you. Questions: contact@velia.care.
